I post this for the edification of all iPhone users and interested persons.
IPhone Update — Hackers’ Edition: “Here’s an iPhone update from the Gadget Lab blog regarding the firmware upgrade to version 1.1.1. There’s good news and there’s bad news. First the bad news. If you’ve unlocked your iPhone but have not upgraded it, don’t upgrade it! It will almost certainly not work afterwards, with no reliable remedy yet available. And that’s not the end of it.

My experience with this software goes all the way back to the days when it was named, Dabbler. This is really fun stuff and highly recommended for those who want to dabble in computer-based art. The included book on color and color theory is worth the price of admission. -TG

It also warned before and during the update that a “hacked” phone could be rendered useless. Well, folks, guess what? They weren’t kidding. I have a question for all those “poor” owners of an “iBrick”. Why did you apply the update? Why did you ignore Apple’s warnings and tamper with the device? And to some of the computer world authors, “Why do you think it is a consumer’s “right” to ignore alliances between companies, blaze one’s own trail and not have to pay a price for doing so? The whole thing is absurd, in my opinion. Bottom line: they got what they deserved. Sorry if that’s harsh, but that’s how I see it
